Now more than ever, there are distinct advantages to working with a mortgage brokerage firm when it comes to financing your home. Mortgage brokers, and loan officers who work for them, have access to wholesale rates from a large variety of lenders–both nationally recognized ones–as well as those with a smaller presence that serve niches that the big banks don’t or can’t offer. If a borrower walks into a bank branch anywhere in the US, they will be offered (generally more expensive) retail rates for their mortgage. Not only that, they will only be offered the loan programs that that particular bank is offering. A mortgage broker shops between multiple banks, i.e. lenders, thereby offering more choices in programs and the most competitive rates on the wholesale market.
